Black Potatoe Records is an independent record label based out of Clinton, New Jersey, founded in 1988 by artist Matthew Angus with one mission: to support the independent artist. Since then over 20 titles have been released on Black Potatoe Records featuring some of New Jerseys best independent talent. The releases have ranged from folk to reggae artists, and also include live and studio compilations of non-Black Potatoe artists. The artists with Black Potatoe have toured throughout the U.S., worked with national acts, received respectable airplay with stations who support independent acts, and received excellent press reviews and coverage. In 1997 Black Potatoe Records threw an outdoor CD release party, which spawned the Black Potatoe Music Festival, spotlighting the independent artist.
